    How to use

    How dividends beget dividends

If you buy more shares with the dividends you receive, your next dividend gets bigger. Add dividend growth and the gap widens over time.

    1. Investment and yield

Enter your initial investment, monthly additional investment and current dividend yield.

    2. Growth assumptions

Enter the dividend growth rate and share price growth rate. Dividend growth stocks commonly grow 5-10% a year and high-dividend stocks 0-3%.

    3. Taxes and reinvestment

Choose the tax rate that matches your account type and whether to reinvest, and it shows the after-tax result.

    Calculation method

It assumes the share price rises each month by the monthly equivalent of the annual growth rate, and that shares held × dividend per share (after tax) is paid each dividend period. Dividend per share grows by the dividend growth rate each year. If you choose reinvestment, the dividend paid is immediately used to buy more shares at that month's price.

Korean dividends may become subject to comprehensive taxation if financial income exceeds KRW 20 million a year. Check with the Comprehensive Financial Income Tax & Health Insurance Checker.

    FAQ

Is a higher dividend yield always better?

Not necessarily. Sometimes the yield looks high only because the share price has dropped sharply. Look at the payout ratio, dividend growth history and earnings stability as well.

Do US stock dividends get taxed again in Korea?

If 15% is withheld in the US, that is higher than the Korean dividend income tax rate (14%), so there is no additional withholding. However, if financial income exceeds KRW 20 million, it is included in comprehensive taxation.

Are dividends in a pension account tax-free?

They aren't taxed when received; they are taxed later as pension income tax (3.3-5.5%) when you receive them as an annuity. Meanwhile, they are reinvested without tax.
