    How IPO shares are allocated

Equal allocation goes by number of accounts, proportional allocation goes by money

At least half of the general subscriber shares are split equally among all accounts that subscribed for the minimum unit or more (equal allocation), and the rest are split in proportion to the subscription amount (proportional allocation).

    1. Enter IPO details

Enter the IPO price and the shares allocated to general subscribers. You can load ongoing IPOs from the list.

    2. Assume a competition ratio

Enter the expected number of subscriptions and the competition ratio. Refer to the results of recent IPOs of similar size.

    3. Compare by subscription size

A table compares how many shares you receive relative to your margin deposit, from the minimum subscription up to large amounts.

Equal allocation = equal-allocation shares / number of subscription accounts (if less than 1 share, it is decided by lottery) Proportional allocation ≈ shares I subscribe for / proportional competition ratio, where proportional competition ratio ≈ total shares subscribed / proportional-allocation shares

The combined competition ratio is total shares subscribed ÷ shares for general subscribers. The proportional pool is half of that, so the proportional competition ratio is roughly double the combined ratio. If there are several brokers, the share pool and competition ratio differ by broker.

    FAQ

How much do I need to put in to get an equal allocation?

You qualify for equal allocation by putting in only the margin deposit for the minimum subscription unit (usually 10 shares). With an IPO price of KRW 20,000 and a 50% margin deposit rate, that is KRW 100,000.

What if the equal allocation works out to less than 1 share?

If there are more subscription accounts than shares available for equal allocation, a lottery decides whether you receive 1 share or none. The calculated value can be read as your probability of getting 1 share.

Can I subscribe with several family accounts?

The rule is one account per person, so duplicate subscriptions across several brokers in your own name are prohibited. Family members can each subscribe with accounts in their own names.
