    How to use

    How take-home pay is calculated

Subtract the four major social insurances and earned income tax from your monthly pay, and what remains is what lands in your bank account.

    1. Enter annual salary or monthly pay

If you enter your contract salary, it is divided by 12 months. If your annual salary includes severance pay, choose "Included".

    2. Non-taxable income and dependents

Enter non-taxable income such as meal allowances, the number of dependents for deduction, and the number of children aged 8 to 20.

    3. Check the deductions

A table shows how much goes to National Pension, health insurance, long-term care, employment insurance, income tax and local income tax, and what the amounts would be at different salaries.

    How it is calculated

    • Taxable monthly pay = monthly pay − non-taxable income. The four social insurance premiums and income tax are calculated from this amount.
    • National Pension = standard monthly income × 4.75% (employee share, 9.5% in total). Standard monthly income is bounded at a floor of KRW 410,000 and a cap of KRW 6.59 million from July 2026, and KRW 400,000 and KRW 6.37 million through June.
    • Health insurance = taxable monthly pay × 3.595% (employee share, 7.19% in total). Long-term care insurance = health insurance premium × 13.14%.
    • Employment insurance = taxable monthly pay × 0.9% (employee share).
    • Earned income tax is the amount found in the National Tax Service's simplified earned income withholding table (effective March 1, 2026) by taxable monthly pay and number of dependents, minus the deduction for children aged 8 to 20 (KRW 20,830 for 1 child, KRW 45,830 for 2, and KRW 33,330 more for each child from the third). Above KRW 10 million a month, the formula in the simplified table applies. Local income tax is 10% of earned income tax.
    • Premiums and taxes are rounded down to the nearest KRW 10.

This calculator shows the amount withheld each month. Your actual annual tax is finalized at year-end settlement, so you may get a refund or owe more. The health insurance monthly pay cap, how your company pays bonuses, and amounts over non-taxable limits are not reflected.

    FAQ

How much is monthly take-home pay on a KRW 50 million salary?

With a non-taxable meal allowance of KRW 200,000 a month and one dependent for deduction (yourself), it is about KRW 3.57 million a month based on rules from July 2026. Enter your salary in the calculator above to see the social insurance and tax breakdown item by item.

Why has take-home pay decreased in 2026?

The National Pension contribution rate rose from 9% to 9.5% starting January 2026, so the employee share went from 4.5% to 4.75%, and the health insurance rate also rose to 7.19%. Even at the same salary, deductions went up slightly.

    How do I count dependents?

Count yourself, your spouse and all dependents who meet the income requirements. A spouse is excluded if their income is above a certain level. If you have children aged 8 to 20, enter them separately to get an additional deduction.

If I choose an 80% withholding rate, does my tax go down?

Only the amount withheld each month goes down. The full-year tax is finalized at year-end settlement, so choosing 80% means your year-end refund may shrink or you may owe more.

Why is salary including severance divided by 13?

Working one year accrues about one month of pay as severance, so an annual salary including severance is treated as 13 months of pay, with 1/13 set aside separately as severance. Monthly pay you receive is annual salary ÷ 13.

Why does it differ from my year-end settlement result?

The simplified withholding table assumes average deductions and withholds tax in advance each month. Actual credit card spending, medical expenses, pension savings contributions and so on are reflected at year-end settlement, so the final tax can differ.

Results are estimates based on your inputs and simplified assumptions, and are for reference only, not a basis for investment decisions.
